041 – Chris Fox, EFF VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL! | Dying Scene Radio

Chris Fox is the DD again today, I mean co-host. Last minute replacement for Elena Venetia who was busy with her dude doing V-day shit. This is the Fuck Valentine’s Day Special! This week on Dying Scene RadioBobby Pickles welcomes Chris Fox (VampiratesBoss’ Daughter, and four other bands) “in-studio” (straight from Reno, NV via the interwebs) to guest co-host the show. Recorded on Saturday, January 9th 2016, one day prior to post-punk provocateur David Bowie losing his 18-month battle with cancer, this week’s episode should remind us why it’s so important to do what we love. This may be a punk rock podcast, but Bowie paved the way for punkers such as Laura Jane Grace, for instance, only, Bowie’s androgynous, don’t-give-a-f#@k attitude was propelled in a time when Bruce Gender wasn’t Glamour Magazine’s “Woman of Year”. Our thoughts and prayers are also with Long Island musician Rob McCallister, best known as the guitarist for Iron Chic. He passed away on January 10th, as well, from undisclosed causes. He leaves behind a daughter. News of his untimely demise will most probably be overshadowed by the news of Bowie’s. Another one bites the Stardust.

This week on Dying Scene RadioElena Venetia takes the week off, so Bobby Pickles conducts the podcast from Jersey City, NY with longtime friend Adrien “Stupid Martini” De Martini, bassist of the female fronted horror punk act, Thee Money $hot. Things get personal, as los bastardos spin tales of atheism, Florida, talentless musicianship, and the untimely death of Teenage Bottlerocket drummer Brandon Carlisle. Bobby also openly apologizes for his wasted, unprofessional antics on last week’s episode; suffice it to say, Bobby doesn’t remember Halloween, but Stupid Martini is quick to remind Pickles of the Halloween two years prior. Have you ever shat your pants at a costume party? FUN FACT: Bobby has! (With special commentary from Mexico City’s Anti-Venöm, Cincinnati punk rockers, UnderTipper, and the new, surf-obsessed, totally-from-California punk band, The All Brights).

033 – HAPPY HALLOWEEN, FEST 14, BEN COLETTI | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene RadioBobby Pickles travels south to the great state of Floriduh to report from FEST 14, but when he’s big leagued during Tampa’s Pre-FEST 3 by Masked Intruder for the second time in two weeks, Pickles goes gonzo (Hunter S. Thompson-style), opting to instead stay close to the beach – drinking, drugging and destroying hotel rooms alongside his attorney – the illustrious Ben Coletti. That’s punk rock! Not tripping over a bunch of trendies in land-locked Gainesville. Elena Venetia conducts her end of the show from the comfort of Queens, NY – where she sets up a Halloween themed playlist to settle the nerves of her two Floridiot counterparts. FUN FACT: Dolphins are rapey.

This week on Dying Scene RadioElena Venetia reports from the field, travelling by Chinatown Bus from NYC to Delaware to interview Nathan Gray, frontman of the post-hardcore/punk band, boysetsfireBobby Pickles joins the conversation from the comfort of his studio, where he is safe to interrogate the singer from afar. Then Masked Intruder bumps the pair before their concert at NYC’s Webster Hall. Apparently, a hapless sound technician spilled his beer on the soundboard just prior to soundcheck, killing all hope of podcasting with the criminal quartet. How punk rock is that! But, Bobby vows to get the scoop next week during FEST 14, or go to jail trying. Episode 32s recurring theme: Kangaroos have 3 va-jay-jays.

031 – GAVIN McINNES | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene RadioBob Noxious quits the show LIVE ON AIR, but not before he and Bobby Pickles welcome Gavin McInnes (Co-Founder, VICE) by way of the interwebs to discuss how punk rock helped shape his successes. An accomplished entrepreneur, writer, radio/tv host, McInnes is living proof that English majors can accomplish a lot more than just being a teacher, not that being a teacher isn’t a great accomplishment or anything. Then a new co-host jumps directly into Bob’s grave! Her name is Elena Venetia and she’s a hot, tatted, New York City punk rock chick, who does not want to be known as the “hot, tatted chick co-host” – just “co-host” (but she’s far from a feminist and wants to make that clear right now). Episode 31’s recurring theme: EVERYBODY is replaceable.

030 - FRANK TURNER |DYING SCENE RADIO

030 – FRANK TURNER |DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene RadioBob Noxious and Bobby Pickles welcome Frank Turner by way of the interwebs to discuss his new record, Positive Songs for Negative People. The Bobs can tell full well that Frank is highly disturbed by their uncouth, American manners and hacky, tabloid idiocy – but that doesn’t stop them from getting to the bottom of things, or learning about Lester Bangs. From being hungover on the set of his new Josephine video, to performing a “nearly” spot-on American accent while proclaiming his love and admiration of the deep south, Turner stays courteous to the Bobs, even while Noxious fields him questions, which were obviously researched via wikipedia. Say hello to the punk rock Bruce Springsteen! (At least we didn’t make that the headline). Unlike Mr. Pickles, who was on TLC’s America’s Worst Tattoos – Mr. Turner does not believe in cover-ups or regret, that’s why Frank has deemed his left leg, his “stupid tattoo leg”, sporting an image of Dale Earnhardt, a kangaroo with a unicorn horn, and a brandname of canadian prescription painkillers. Episode 30’s recurring themes: Bob’s admitted rampant file sharing abuses, his exploitation of hate mail and “not so secret” admirers, plus a new genre is born: polka-funk.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER

Bob doesn’t know the meaning of provocative. Elliott Fullam of Little Punk People talks about his experience interviewing Babes in Toyland at their NYC Irving Plaza show. Bob has a “not so secret” admirer who appreciates Bob’s beard. Bob says the Meat Puppets aren’t “punk rock”.

Bob’s extra-curricular activities was band but he had to quit because he had poor grades, while Bobby was hellion, a “crazy, punk rock kid” who dropped outta high school but still managed to graduate from UF. Frank Turner teaches Bob and Bobby about Lester Bangs, considered to be  “America’s Greatest Rock Critic” – the Hunter S. Thompson of music journalism. Bob says Bobby must enjoy wearing women’s clothes because Bobby refuses to comment on Fat Mike’s fondness of wearing ladies’ attire.

“There’s always a little word play when there’s a little ass play”, says Bob as he intros “Frank Turner ‘doing’ Josephine”. Bob’s doing a split 7” with Dwarves’ guitarist HeWhoCannotBeNamed. Bobby wants the 7” vinyl from Bob for Christmas. Bob says espresso is a diuretic – that’s why e stays clear of that nasty stuff when carousing Walmart shopping aisles.

New DS t-shirts may be available soon! Bob says whenever he wears his DS t-shirt, people pledge their undying (pun intended) allegiance to Dying Scene. When a band calls it quits and they still have 7-8 months of touring, Bob won’t shed a tear. The name “American Television” makes Bob think of the “golden years” of TV. Bob has never experienced television outside of the USA. It’s really the lowest common denominator.

Frank Turner has better manners than Bob and Bobby, despite being an Englishman. If you’re a good songwriter, you might not wanna listen to other’s input, as in – “dude, that stuff sounds like Iron Maiden, it’s not 1984” – actual commentary from a PigPen session. While discussing the new Domesplitter hot sauce – Bobby declares, “Hot Sauce Everything!” Bob looks up the moruga scorpion scoville unit, then explains the hybrid strain system to Bobby, who has read High Times magazine and lives in a “medical state”.

029 - MILLENCOLIN | DYING SCENE RADIO

029 – MILLENCOLIN | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene RadioBobby Pickles chats with Mathias Färm and Erik Ohlsson of the legendary Swedish skate-punk band Millencolin prior to their stop at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, on the North American leg of their 2015 True Brew tour. Pickles probes the two Scandinavian guitarists about that time their mutual friend, Frankie Dan acclaimed tattoo artist who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35, had the entire band tattoo their signatures onto his leg. Erik says they have the entire encounter on video somewhere and they will post it soon, now that they have heard the news of Frankie’s untimely demise. Bobby also asks the two about Millencolin’s iconic sound, their preference for Viking women, and then relays several offensively idiotic questions that were penned by Bob NoxiousVideo of Bobby Pickles’ full-interview with Millencolin can be found on the DSR YouTube page. Vignettes by: Dan of Still Alive, Mark of Madaline, and Shaun Colón and Joel Herrera of A Fat Wreck and Punk Rock Film FestEpisode 29’s recurring theme: Crapping out on punk rock knowledge.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER

Let’s play a game of punk rock craps. “Are you ready to roll the dice, Mr. Pickles!” Bob exclaims, revealing his inclusion in a $1700 football pool and having his mind on his money and his money on his mind. But the Bobs don’t know sports terminology, or gambling terminology for that matter. But they do know about punk rock! Or so they think.

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates – and Bob Noxious recommends Richard CheeseBouncing Souls also do a string of hometown shows during the holidays, just like the Bosstones. The Bobs were on hiatus when Queers bassist Dangerous Dave went on drunken rampage aimed at destroying the band’s drum kit

Bob has zero idea who BoySetsFire is but wants to test Bobby’s punk rock knowledge. Noxious then makes fun of how Bobby answers his fact-checking questions, but Bobby knows it’s only out of insecurity because Bob is most probably a sociopath, and some thing’s are better left unsaid.

Bobby keeps on saying “next on the docket” throughout the show, which may become a staple term, just like “grubby little hands”. Bob Brandt wants Pickles to hunt Blake Schwarzenbach down on a Brooklyn sidewalk. Bob says Bobby should catch the Jawbreaker frontman as he’s exiting a bodega, kitty litter in-hand.

Bob says, “Never let another man hold your bag!” when Bobby shares that he left his bag of radio equipment with Jonny X while he moshed in the circle pit at the Millencolin concert. Bob still gets in the pit at 46. Bob says Tom Araya looks downright haggerty in the brand new Slayer video. The Bobs crap out when they roll a 7 with everything on the table!

017 – BEN WEASEL | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, the Bobs’ digital smoke signals to Ben Weasel finally pays off, as the Screeching Weasel founder and frontman guest hosts the show, joining Bob Noxious and Bobby Pickles in studio to discuss everything under the sun, from bums to farming to fat, middle-aged punk rock stereotypes – the three blather back and forth about a slew of interesting, unconventional topics. Weasel’s epic punk rock opus – Baby Fat Act 1 – is out now on Recess Records. Episode 17’s recurring theme: Performance Art.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER

The show wouldn’t be the same without a local weather report, so right off the bat, Bobby the meteorologist asks Ben for an oral account on the state of precipitation in the area encompassing Ben’s hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. Ben responds that he is enjoying a nice sunny day overlooking his cattle grazing in the Alfalfa fields. Who knew that Ben Weasel was a farmer?

Ben interrogates Bobby about his decision to employ a homeless person as a model for his T-shirt company. Bobby reveals how he first met “the bum”, who was living inside of Penn Station, when Bobby first moved to NYC. Bobby, who was managing a cell phone kiosk, thought it rather ironic that a bum would have a cell phone, so he struck up a friendship with the man. Ben commends Bobby on his humanitarian efforts, when Bobby admits to housing and employing “the bum”. Ben concedes to feeling like “a heel” for trying to make a joke about it. Intrigued by the new-found thought of employing bums as T-shirt models, Bob suggests to Bobby that maybe he should consider publishing a calendar as a way to support the homeless on a more regular basis, which Ben wholeheartedly agrees upon.

While on the subject of T-shirts, Bobby bounces an idea off of Bob and Ben: “What about a “mash-up” tee, depicting the recently deceased B.B. King as G.G. Allin (B.B. Allin) – complete with poo and tattoos?” In unison, Ben and Bob both agree that it is way too soon for that much poor taste, but that King’s heirs should be entitled to some of the profits if that were to happen.

Like a kid at Disney World, Bobby cannot contain his excitement as he gleefully tells Ben that not only did he purchase Baby Fat Act 1 from iTunes on the day of its release, but that he has listened to the entire offering three times already. Ben explains the general concept behind his punk rock opera, which is played out by many singers and complete with a libretto – but for a more comprehensive breakdown of the characters and plot, please read Ben’s exclusive interview with the Italian magazine, Tempi. Baby Fat is based on the opera, Rigoletto, which Bobby admits to watching the Luciano Pavarotti version online earlier in the afternoon after not being able to to find a cassette deck to play his Italian grandfather’s audio version.

The conversation turns to crowdfunding. There’s a common misconception in the “record business” about artists who “beg” for money from their fans, but Ben justifies his use of crowdfunding to finance his operatic masterpiece by comparing it to nothing more than a glorified pre-order, but without the recoupable advance from the record company. He also states that crowdfunding is really a tool in-line with the old standby D.I.Y. ethics of yesteryear. The artist maintains control by doing everything for his or herself, therefore cutting out the middle-man, which benefits the artist in terms of receiving larger royalty percentages as well.

After nearly 30 years of playing punk music, Ben proclaims that punk bands will always shoot themselves in the foot, based on their misguided principles. He goes on to point out that most of them spend too much time, himself included, apologizing for their actions and what they say; meanwhile, Bob is preparing to play a new track from Chicago’s The Copyrights, who Ben declares “complete douchebags” who “can certainly dish it out, but [they] can’t take it”. Ben continues by stating sarcastically that ska/punk music died out in the 90’s. Bob mentions that musical styles tend to run in cycles and that maybe there will be a resurgence in the genre sometime in the near future, which Ben is quick to dismiss.

Ben inquires about the origins and operations of Dying Scene, asking if it is corporately owned, or indeed run by a team of fans and writers. Bobby compares it to a grass roots operation. Ben goes on to say that if it was corporately owned, he wouldn’t necessarily have a problem with it, reminding everyone that, after all, Screeching Weasel is incorporated too. Weasel continues by telling a story about another popular online news gathering website, leveraged by investors and bought out without informing their staff of contributors, the result of which was one person walking away with a huge cash-grab and then going into seclusion.

Ben tells the story of how he met Bob’s mutual friend, ex-Pink Lincolns frontman, Chris Barrows. The two used to trade their respective bands’ cassettes through the legendary punk periodical, Maximum Rock and Roll, and the US Mail. Ben explains how he had Chris in mind when coming up with the Zannoni character on Baby Fat, elaborating about what a great job Chris did on the record, singing “God Damn You” in a key that is normally not in Chris’ wheelhouse. Ben goes on to say that Chris is his oldest friend, not in age, but in longevity. Bob deadpans that Chris is his oldest friend, not in longevity, but in age…On a sidenote, Bob played all of the guitars on Chris Barrows debut solo CD Human Being in 2014. If you happen to find a copy of the disc, have a listen to the track, “Not It”. Not only does it include Bob Noxious, but it also happens to feature none other than Ben Weasel, trading verses with Chris Barrows. Another notable on the disc is Hewhocannotbenamed of The Dwarves fame, lending the farfisa organ on two tracks of the disc. Now go find it on iTunes!!

On the subject of “Band Statements”…Ben says that they should always be treated as “suspicious”. He found himself the victim of his band making statements against him about four years ago after Ben went on a woman-punching spree. Unfazed and unembarrassed, Ben maintains that he was “on a roll” and then compares it to not being able to eat just one potato chip. He jokes about it because it was not a big deal when it initially happened, but the online news media all had their pitchforks and torches blazing, ready to BBQ Weasel for his actions. His band, disgruntled by their pay and merchandise profit sharing, took it as an opportunity to make a statement which ultimately let to them all being fired by Screeching Weasel, Inc. Noticing that it was more of a struggle for money, power and control, Weasel dismisses it in reality as just a bunch of people fighting and “who really cares”?

Nexxt on the agenda was a discussion on “super groups” Ben considers that anyone who considers themselves to be a part of one is most certainly an egomaniac. If he were asked to be a part of one, he concedes that he would most definitely not be offering up his best material. While still on the subject of music and direction, Ben wonders aloud what a record label even does for young bands anymore and how a band can remain focused and motivated when there is not much money or notoriety that can be found.

After making his thoughts known on the current state of the music industry, it is easy to see that Ben is himself jaded and not interested in much more than his own music, When asked what music was currently out that he enjoyed listening to, he very quickly responded that he usually listens to Taylor Swift and the Frozen soundtrack, a clear indication that Weasel has a daughter (or really bad taste in music).

The next band to be featured in Ben’s cross-hairs is the New Orleans based punk act, PEARS, who have recently signed a deal with Fat Wreck Chords. Amused by this news, Ben explains that the band has ultimately created career suicide by inking the deal. He goes on to say that the band was more than likely manufactured in a corporate board room by guys in suits and pie charts who were looking for all of the elements to create the next “cool guy” punk band. Ben tells the band to enjoy their almost certain very short career. Weasel explains his reasoning that FAT is very money motivated and once they find that they cannot sell the PEARS new record, they will be dropped from the label like yesterday’s news. Noxious, himself once signed to a major label, proclaims triumphantly that he is proud to be an unsigned artist with full rights to his own catalogue of music and states that he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Next on the docket are body modification, or more specifically, tattoos. Bobby explains how he went to go get his first tattoo as a youth. He wanted the Screeching Weasel logo, but deterred by his youth, the artist told him to return only after his “balls have dropped”. Ouch! Weasel says that he himself only got one last year. How many of our listeners have a Screeching Weasel tattoo?

Bobby then asks Ben to tell some more sh!t talking tales of Fat Mike and NOFX, to which he is more than willing to oblige. Ben asks why in 2004, Fat Mike found himself trying to make his way as a political correspondent, encouraging his fans to vote for John Kerry.Ben concluded that Fat Mike is a great songwriter and should avoid the politics by sticking to writing songs about “boobs and doing blow” then concludes that when the image of being a fat, drug-riddled singer becomes reality that the songwriting is bound to suffer. So long NOFX?

One might think that Ben would hold back on his thoughts about other. But, no. Next on the chopping block is Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, who Ben remembers as “Lint” when he was in Operation Ivy. Weasel insinuates that he was a confused youth who was not sure whether he wanted to be straight-edge one day or hardcore then next. Ben says that the persona that he settled on was that of a “bone-headed jackass gangster thug punk moron” whose speech impediment is fake and a put-on. Choosing to remain diplomatic, Ben does say that he always liked Lint, but that he more than likely did not know where he fit in.

As the show begins to conclude, Bob asks Ben again about his farm in Wisconsin. Bob wants to know whether the cows are for dairy, meat…or mushrooms. Thats when Ben peels a layer back from the onion and declares that he was lying all along about having a farm and that he has enjoyed telling the story for the past ten years or more. After a long explanation about how he has a back story which has become a story in its own right, he once again changes gears and claims that he really does have a farm and was just trying to get a reaction from the Bob. Ben concedes that the Chicago Blackhawk hockey game was over and it was time to put the cows to be. Bob claims allegiance to the Tampa Bay Lightning and makes a bold prediction that they will be taking out the New York Rangers in game 7 of the NHL playoffs. Sports?? On a punk show? Seems like a fitting time to end the call with a bit of advice from the Weez…

016 - THE ANTIDON’TS | DYING SCENE RADIO

016 – THE ANTIDON’TS | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bob Noxious and Bobby Pickles send another digital smoke signal to Ben Weasel after the Screeching Weasel founder and frontman mentions them on the latest episode of his Weasel Radio podcast. BAND SPOTLIGHT: Florida hardcore surf punkers The Antidon’ts. The two Bobs interview the three-piece (Zack, Mikey and Anthony) about the band’s witty song titles, their upcoming gig at Bowl Bash 20: Skateopia’s annual music festival, which, this year, Green Jellÿ is headlining, plus they premiere a new track off their new record “Buckwild and Foul” – slated for release on June 1st via Bandcamp. Episode 16’s recurring theme: Pig Pen on tour.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER

With Ben Weasel’s well-documented, self-imposed media blackout still much in effect, Bobby makes a bit of headway when Weasel openly considers a guest-host spot on an upcoming DSR episode. Bob makes an on-air promise to not bring up the “woman punching” ordeal Ben went through several years ago. Bobby then confesses to punching a woman in the face, with a closed fist, while in college, after being ejected from her moving vehicle.

Always one with an opinion, Bob Noxious is always willing to share them with whomever will listen. While running through some news stories on recent bands, Bob voices his displeasure of Bad Brains’ recent decision to start recording a new record without their iconic frontman, H.R. When Bobby opens up a generalized topic about the music industry. Bob informs Bobby about how the music industry works and stresses that there is no man in a cheap suit and a bad haircut smoking a cigar waiting to sign every bad with a gimmick.

With each week, the Bob’s are immersed with new music. Some good, some bad. After hearing a recent news story about the seminal indie punk band Jawbreaker, Bob gives respect to the band, even though he does not like the band’s music personally. He does mention that he was a huge fan of the candy in his youth.

Bob thinks that GoFundMe campaigns have gotten out of control after Bobby reports on a band that is trying to have their van replaced after it was stolen from their front yard, while they were not on tour. Bob does stress that “anyone can ask for anything, but it does not mean that they will get it.

Still gloating about Dying Scene Radio being mentioned on Weasel Radio, Bobby brings up that Ben Weasel does not have much use for the mainstream media and compares such news gathering sites as Punk News and Dying Scene as nothing more than “regurgitated press clippings”.

Bobby claims that Bob does not always remember the facts from week-to-week and the conversation turns deep as Bob recalls Bobby’s last trip to Florida when Bobby “was chumming the sharks” and vomiting over the edge of the chartered yacht that they were on. Deciding against arguing the point, Bobby concedes and asks to move on to the next topic.

Bob gives fatherly advice to Set It Off’s recently fired bassist Austin Kerr to “get your shit together” while noting that people can make mistakes, then learn from them.

Zac, Mikey and Anthony from the Port Charlotte, Florida based band, The AntiDont’s join the show to talk about their new 13 song (+bonus track) recording that will be available through their bandcamp page on June 1. The band introduces the Bob’s to “Dad Rock” and debuts another new track from their upcoming release “Buckwild and Foul”. They also talk about what it is like being from such a small community, having to play mismatched shows with nu-metal bands and trying to have their music heard by a much greater audience. The band is quoted as saying that nobody likes being told no, and they are constantly pushing their boundaries, as evidenced by having the infamous Green Jelly frontman, Bill Manspeaker, introduce them at the beginning of the recording. The Canadian TV program, Trailer Park Boys,  are constantly a central topic of reference with the band, but alas, they do not have any songs about them. They do mention that there is a sample from the show on the new record. Have a listen when it comes out. Can you find it?

Bob continues to serve his own selfish needs as he continues to run down upcoming concert dates for his band and mentions that his contact in Austin will be at Punk Rock Bowling instead of the show. Bobby assures him that maybe next year his band can be included on the bill, to which Bob interjects that he can play this year by finding a 24 hour laundromat and making flyers and distributing then to homeless people and high school students. Bob will be on tour with his band this week on his affectionately penned vehicle “the fart bus” and their first stop is New Orleans. Bob asks what type of conflict he may expect if he purchases a voodoo doll for his girlfriend as a souvenir. Bobby is certain that Bob really just wants another head on a stick for his doll garden.

In one of the more bizarre news stories that came across the wire this week, Brendan Kelly has filmed a video for the AV Club to help promote Nihilist Arbys, which is quite possibly the best feed that Twitter currently has to offer. Bob wonders aloud if Nihilist Arbys originates from Brendan Kelly since he can be so damn funny…and bizarre.

While revisiting the subject of band reuniting/breaking up. Bob determines that Sublime with Rome needs to move on in a different direction now that Bud Gaugh has left the band. Bobby chimes in and shows his utter disgust by declaring that he absolutely hates the first song from the bands new record. Always inviting controversy, Bob decides to play the song anyway. Bob then owns up to not being very well versed in ska music and Bobby recommends that he watch Tim Armstrong’s latest episode of “Under The Influence” which features a full history of 2Tone music.

015 - NIGHT GAUNTS | DYING SCENE RADIO

015 – NIGHT GAUNTS | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene RadioBob Noxious and Bobby Pickles are back after a one-week hiatus – so that Bob could comfortably celebrate his Cinco de Mayo birthday, while hosting a cordial Mother’s Day for his fifteen baby-mamas, as proclaimed (and miscounted) by Bobby. BAND SPOTLIGHT: Night Gaunts – ska/hip-hop/fun-punk prodigies from AucklandNew Zealand. The two Bobs interview guitarist/lead singer/OCD-engineer-producer Paul Jonassen via the internet from a conference room sixteen hours into the future. Episode 15’s recurring theme: Shameless Plugging.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER

Bob dismisses the weekly weather report because unlike New York – it’s raining in Florida – so Bobby declares him a selfish weatherman, choosing only to gloat when Mother Nature blows sunshine in his direction.

Bob receives a birthday package of “I Hate Bob” T-Shirts from FAT ENZO – then he gathers all “15” daughters collectively for a family photo of the ages, which elicits many comments in the social media sphere. After summing up more news on out-dated pop-punk icons, Bob wonders aloud if that’s what Bobby thinks about when he’s on the toilet.

More booze-cruise concert news; Bob declares that there is nothing better than getting trashed on a boat with your idols, asking the ominous question, “What can go wrong?” Bobby interjects that most Cruise-liners originate out of coastal Florida port cities, and that is the first problem. See: Florida Man.

Bobby stands in front of the class for the first time in his prepubescent punk rock life, teaching Bob about the original Dropkick Murphy – a professional wrestler turned sanitarium operator. Boston will never be the same. Quick to be equally awkward, Bob shares the story of Flat Stanley, a piece of paper that gets sent around the world by pen-pals. Is there such a thing as pen-pals via the US Mail anymore?

While discussing the recent release of the new Millencolin record, Bobby commends Bob on his pronunciation of the Swedish language, to which Bob replies that he has put together enough Ikea furniture to hold his own. Obviously proud of himself, Bob declares that he is also pretty good with the meatballs.

News of Against Me’s Laura Jane Grace recently sharing the stage with Miley Cyrus, elicits Bobby to mention that ever since Bruce Jenner went gendered, it is now cool to be androgynous. Mistakenly, Bob hears the words “Bruce Gender” and they both acknowledge that it would make a great T-shirt.

Bobby admits to Night Gaunts frontman Paul Jonassen, quite early on during the band spotlight conversation, that he very much enjoys Budweiser Light, to which Paul notes that Bobby must like to “stay hydrated” – a clear indication that Bobby’s beloved beverage is deemed merely flavored water by New Zealanders. The conversation turns to Night Gaunts’ upcoming US Tour, which the band will be embarking on in the coming months. Bob alludes to having heard Paul’s podcast, Dumb Philosophers.

Go Sports! After the interview with Paul, Bobby cannot hide his enthusiasm about the Stanley Cup playoffs. It’s that time of year. The Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Rangers will face each other in the coveted next round of the playoffs. Expect more hockey talk (that has nothing to do with The Hextalls) in the next few weeks. Sorry punkers.

A recurring theme and trend is starting to become apparent as the episode progresses: shameless self-promotion. Bob carries on, obsessing about grabbing a cold beer with him as his band PIG PEN tours their way through the southwest US over the Memorial Day weekend. Dying Scene Head Honcho, Johnny X, is putting on Hi-Fi Rockfest in Long Beach, California later this year with Dead KennedysStreet Dogs and Leftover Crack among others. And of course, we literally cannot forget Bobby Pickles’ entity, FAT ENZO, your source for screenprinting and custom apparel.

As the show gradually draws to a close, Bob mentions that he would not want to be from “Upstate New York” and compares it to living in prison. Like an elephant with an unforgettable memory, Bobby is quick to point out that Bob’s dislike for the area more than likely originates from Bob being punched in the face while on a childhood visit to the Empire State. Bobby then gives a tip on how things get done in the N.Y.C.

Dying Scene Radio is now on iTunes! (Please: Download. Listen. Subscribe. Share with your fellow punks. Rate the show. And leave a disrespectful comment about Bob’s hosting abilities). DSR can also be heard LIVE each and every Friday night at 9PM EST on Real Punk Radio

014 – GASH | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bob Noxious and Bobby Pickles speak with Tibbie X and Stephxecutioner of the Philadelphia, PA-based S&M punkers, GASH, via telephone from their new rehearsal space. Tibbie explains why the band switched directions with their previous drummer and how all fetishists are welcome – even their own bass player, who is a “furry”. Bobby inquires to what the women’s feet look like, and trying to feign his interest, deflects that he wants to gift Tibbie’s smelly socks to Bob for his upcoming birthday. Bobby admits to being glad the two didn’t have to talk to the guys in the band.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER:

Bob declares himself a pirate and has the tattoo to prove it! While Bobby delivers the latest news about Blink 182, Bob delivers his thoughts about Matt Skiba and pre-pubescent 13-year old boys. Then, displaying a true lack of class, Bob busts on Bobby’s mom.

While talking about an Israeli band in the news called Sweatshop Boys, Bobby asks if Bob has ever heard of Krav Maga, the self-defense system developed for the Israeli military. Bob reports that he could figure it out by watching YouTube videos, which is obviously where he gains most of his knowledge.

Bobby wonders aloud why so many Swiss punk bands record/perform in English, to which Bob assures him that he could have an easy conversation with the natives. Bob is obviously ignorant to the fact that English is not one of the four national languages of Switzerland: German, French, Italian and Romansh. Talk turns to DAMN BROADS’ slick, new music video for their song “Nature of the Game”. Bobby mentions the juxtaposition of the broads’ red lipstick against the black and white images. Like a true cynic, Bob states: “People can do anything with their GoPros these days.”

Bobby takes to heart the lyrics on a track by UK punkers Wonk Unit, promising to buy more band merch and music whenever he gets the chance. Conversation turns to “political season” – the recent rioting in Baltimore and the earthquakes in Nepal, then Bobby declares that there needs to be more positivity in the White House. Bob mentions a recent poll on dyingscene.com asking about the site’s new layout. What do you think of the new DS layout?

Bob mutilates the name of one of the bands from this week’s playlist: Mutoid Man. After Bobby calls him out on the error, Bob amuses himself by saying the band’s name in different comedic voices. To close out the show, Against Me’s transgendered front-man-woman Laura Jane Grace plays an acoustic cover of “I Keep Forgetting” by Michael McDonald with a Cure loop sampled as the backbeat. Bobby wonders aloud how his/her feet might look.

013 – THE REGRESSIVES | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bob and Bobby speak with Joe Piglet – frontman for New York City punk act, The Regressives. After two years in the making, the group has just released their self-titled debut record – which The Bobs give two grubby little thumbs up. Bobby and Joe discover that they used to live in the same neighborhood on Staten Island, which Bobby deems a cesspool. Not to be outdone, Bob admits to living in an “Historic District” of Tampa, surrounded by low-income housing and plush, manicured lawns.

The Bobs discuss their very first quarterly review, which just so happens to land appropriately on lucky episode number thirteen. After a well-deserved tongue lashing by Dying Scene Chief Editor, Johnny X, the pair devise some ways of making the show more entertaining and professional, and boost job confidence. Bob, the consummate sycophant, adapts quickly to the recent revamp of the Dying Scene website, and proclaims his admiration for all the changes.

012 – COCK SPARRER, PEARS | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bob Noxious interviews New Orleans punk rock darlings, Pears, and Bobby Pickles interviews Cock Sparrer (Pronounced: SPERRA in American) prior to their first NYC show in 15 years. Fresh off a one week hiatus, the two Bobs don’t miss a beat with two interesting conversations, plus Bobby makes a total ass out of himself by mispronouncing the band’s name consistently throughout their entire exchange – watch the Full Video HERE

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER:

Bob admits to being a true consumer, planning to visit at least three record stores on Saturday’s coveted Record Store Day. Bobby has an iPhone with plenty of MP3s at his grubby little fingertips. Bob collects punk records that he doesn’t listen to and Bobby has old opera records, which belonged to his grandfather.

News of two untimely deaths in the punk rock world inspires Bob to start yet another punk rock death pool. Bobby bets on Cock Sparrer because they’re so bloody old, then Bob bets on Pears, so he can also bet on the band he interviewed this week.

Wrapped in full USA colors, Bob declares that Pears has the most awesome tour van ever! The brash complement quickly devolves to talk of farts, feet and gas milage. From their humble beginnings to their affiliation with Off With Their Heads, Pears just may be “the last great hope of punk rock” but Bob doubts that seriously.

Bobby gets schooled by Cock Sparrer on the actual pronunciation of their name, then continues to butcher it. Bobby displays not a hint of becoming a “Proper Cockney Hooligan” anytime soon. Bobby also mispronounces the last name of lead singer Colin McFaull. All of this with a bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Florida. Bobby openly admits his love of Bud Light to two right Englishmen who enjoy drinking beers from all across God’s green globe.

Bobby shares a tale of meeting Out Of Order lead singer Scott Maracle at the Cock Sparrer show – then premiers a new Out Of Order track without the band’s expressed permission. Bob announces that any band interested in getting their music played on DSR should email him, to mirror the success of Colombian skate punk band 69 Enfermos

011 – TARTAR CONTROL | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, The Bobs interview South Central Los Angeles-based comedy punk rock band Tartar Control – a three-piece comprised of two Mormon missionaries and a robot. Bob and Bobby host a cordial discussion with Sean (Guitar/Angelic Singing), Robert (Screaming) and Robot (Bass/Drums) about the origin of their band and humanity alike, their insanely hilarious YouTube videos, and their new record, “We Forgive You”, which drops on April 6th.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER:

Bobby admits to being a “pro wrestling dork” as a child growing up in a region chock-full of household wrestling names. Bobby recalls watching the 90’s romance classic, Sleepless In Seattle, in the same movie theatre as Hulk Hogan.

Bobby teaches Bob a new word: Sycophant. Bob makes generalizations about Canadians, then references Avril Lavigne and her useless husbands.

Bobby attempts to convert Tartar Control to Scientology, arguing that robots and aliens go hand-in-hand. Bob compares Mormon uniforms to the garb painters traditionally wear, then humblebrags about recently meeting Andrew WK. Sean and Robert discuss the challenges of traveling with a robot, sharing one of their fun experiences with the TSA.

Bob disrespects the memory of both Jim Morrison and Joey Ramone. Bobby mentions his “Lizard King” tattoo. Then, Bob reveals to the world that Bobby Pickles began his rise to prominence in 2013 when he appeared on the TLC reality series “America’s Worst Tattoos”.

Bob concedes to being a “bad father” for allowing his children to watch Tartar Control’s pilot episode. The band mentions noticing more and more “multi-generational punk rock families” at their concerts, acknowledging that the presence of children is “never not awkward” (intentional double-negative). NOTE: Tartar Control is NOT for children.

Bob discloses his shaving habits, while Sean and Robert share a few tips about oral hygiene. Bobby grills Sean about his “Open Me” tuning and the rhythm section’s (Robot’s) BPM. Then Sean, Robert and Robot sing some acapella.

Robot voices his displeasure with Bob Noxious, repeatedly insulting him. Bob feels he and Robot should get along better given their shared technologically advanced natures. Bobby compares Robot to a dog sensing danger. Taking the high road, Bob invites the band to Florida, promising a safe haven for Robot to recharge, if they someday decide to take him up on his gracious offer.

010 – JOE QUEER, BLAG DAHLIA | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bob Noxious interviews Joe Que3r, guitarist and lead singer of the legendary American punk rock band The Queers on their co-headlining ticket with The Dwarves at BackBooth in Orlando, FL. And Bobby Pickles slurs through his end of this week’s podcast drunk on whiskey.

Dwarves’ frontman Blag Dahlia denies Noxious’ allegations of conspiracy to expel Bobby Pickles from The Bowery Electric on this two-part series concerning “some obscure dude from New York”.

SYNOPSIS OF BANTER:

Bobby asks Bob about how he got his start in radio. Bob explains his humble beginnings on a local Pirate Radio Station and growing up the son of a 70’s A.M. Radio “Hot Jock” DJ.

Bobby declares, “pop-anything sucks”, including but not limited to pop-country and pop-hip-hop and pop-punk; he then continues on with a news story about Blink 182. Bob continues to be amazed that the aforementioned band remains seemingly relevant to the patrons of dyingscene.com and quickly dismisses them.

Bob asks Joe Que3r why punk rock legends are so much more accessible than the untouchable rock heroes of yesteryear. Joe tells Bob about meeting Joey Ramone and eventually working with him on his solo record. Legendary! (There’s that word again). Later, Blag baba-booeys the interview, asking Joe about “the blow and all that stuff”.

Bob discusses his deep seething hatred of the “emo/kid/bubblegum/pop” bands who are continually signed to Epitaph, explaining further that the only relevant band still left on the label is Bad Religion (not true, see: Rancid, Pennywise, Millencolin, Propagandhi, The Descendents…and the list goes on and on).

Talk turns to all of the different silly names that record labels are naming themselves.

Bobby mentions looking forward to seeing Less Than Jake in New Haven, then gloats that there are no Florida dates for Bob to catch. Bob informs Bobby that LTJ’s frontman, Chris DeMakes, lives in the same Florida city as he, continuing that they play roughly eight local shows per year.

Bobby, once again, invites Bob to New York for a yearly shindig, then accuses him of being “too pushy” when Bob suggests an interview request with NJ hardcore band, Bigwig. Passive-aggressive puns are passed around playfully as Bob chastises Bobby for a slow news week at DyingScene.com when his supposed “jouralist” co-host covers a story about “some dude’s record collection” – Bobby waxing on about Minor Threat’s Filler EP.

009 – BLAG DAHLIA, MID RATS | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bobby Pickles interviews Dwarves’ frontman Blag Dahlia prior to the band’s seminal east coast show at The Bowery Electric in New York City. With “Press Pass” in hand, Pickles covers the concert in true punk rock fashion – culminating in a swarm of security guards ejecting him from the venue. Bobby is convinced that Blag gave the orders to have him forcibly removed from the concert in order to validate the band’s reputation. The FULL Video interview can be found HERE on the DSR YouTube channel: Bobby asks about the band’s nom de plumes, Blag’s books, zines and brilliant writing ability, and the day-to-day operations of a DIY punk icon, while Blag mentions his band being somehow linked to Islamic Fundamentalism, which is the perfect time to boast about being very tall and having a large penis.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: Mid Rats
The Bobs reach out to the Lancaster, Pennsylvania punk act, Mid Rats, for a St. Paddy’s Day interview special…and Bobby has been drinking. The band, which just recently released their 4 song EP, Vandalize You, are this week’s featured Dying Scene artist. Bobby takes a trip down memory lane when he reveals that he used to date a girl whose uncle owned a very prominent vintage clothing business in downtown Lancaster: Zap & Co. As the conversation progresses, drunk-Bobby calls the band out for not playing Philadelphia sooner, but then saves face and displaying his literary prowess by citing Mark Twain as a reference when the band is asked about the origin of their name.

008 – ¡LA VASA! | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bobby Pickles confirms his pirate status, while talk immediately turns to tech news, and Bob Noxious admits he has worn a smart-watch since the age of three, giving a new meaning to the term “early adoption”. But the Apple Watch isn’t very i-Punk; therefore, all the other little boys and girls always wondered why Bob was so overwhelmed with the concept of time.

While discussing this week’s music news, Bob’s darkside shows it’s grubby little hand again, as he ponders Bobby’s Internet browser history, and what people would think about his search habits.

Bobby erroneously corrects Bob for mentioning a band called Darlington, who was recently on a split 7″ with The Prozacs. Referring to the band in the plural form, Darlingtons, Bobby goes on to claim that Bob cannot remember what he says from week to week and inquires if he has ever taken Prozac. Both Bobs do not know the ailments for which Prozac is even treated. Bob adds “Prozac” to the list of items he prefers to keep out of his search history, then he decides to start a crowd funding campaign to have his co-host, Bobby, killed.

Bobby’s impeccable journalism once again shines through, as he brings up the new Flatliners video and 7″ single, which they released last week. Then his pirate-blood really becomes evident when Bobby fires shots across the bow, claiming Bob does not want to include the song in this week’s playlist. Bob argues that he is exempt, presenting his evidence of having played the new Flatliners song “Fangs” on last week’s show. Bobby lets him off the hook.

Bobby mentions a new video recently released by pop-punk band, New Found Glory, who Bob presumes to have found a “new harder edge” as Bob continues by fantasizing about Andrew WK killing them all with a chainsaw in the video.

Bobby discusses the upcoming release of The American Dream Died, which is the long awaited new record by veteran NYHC band, Agnostic Front. Bobby makes a slanderous accusation of Bob while covering the news of Roger Miret and company, but we’ll just let the listeners decide who’s telling the truth.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: ¡La Vasa!
The Bobs reach out to Santa Barbara, CA thrash punk band, ¡La Vasa! – Bobby asking right away about the weather in Southern California. Preparing for the CD release party for their new record Quest, the band speaks candidly from the warm confines of their rehearsal studio about its origins and how they started from a craigslist ad. The Bobs uncover that new bass player, Kevin Johnson, is a former DyingScene.com writer – Bob encouraging LeftCoastKJ to contribute articles to the website again.

As the show progresses in poor taste, Bobby announces that everything runs “in threes” as he mentions three notable deaths, which took place this week in the punk rock community. The dark clouds continue to accumulate overhead as the two ponder starting a “Celebrity Death Pool” until they realize that there were already three; therefore, the contest is now closed. Bobby reads The Queers statement about the recent passing of their former drummer, Tulu, in the voice of a “Miami Socialite”, while Bob insinuates his undignified co-host sounds more like 70′s icon, Supafly.

Bob cops to having discovered that there is a band from Canada called “Bobnoxious” and declares them the “third-worst thing to have ever been produced in Canada”, running a tight race with Nickleback and Justin Beiber (not necessarily in that order). Bob loses two “punk rock points” by confessing to have watched the new Nickleback video at Bobby’s mother’s house, as Bobby secretly plots to destroy Bob someday, opting not publishing his intentions like stupid Bob. Bob declares that the band is still shit and to not waste your time watching it (we all know that’s a black flag).

Bobby mentions that he will be interviewing Blag Dahlia of The Dwarves this weekend at Bowery Electric for the launch of their East Coast tour. Bob encourages him to treat Blag to shots, so that Blag will dress him. Tune in next week to see if Pickles can pull it off!

007 – BILL MANSPEAKER, JUSTIN THIRSK | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, the Bobs forgo the traditional format (no BAND SPOTLIGHT) in lieu of conducting two key interviews with Justin Thirsk of Chaos Delivery Machine and Bill Manspeaker of Green Jellÿ, respectively. Per usual, the two compare notes about the weather (Bob thrives in a sub-tropical paradise while Bobby survives yet another week of frozen, mucky hell), Bobby’s girlfriend breaks up with him because of, among other things, the podcast, then Bob insists that his co-host settle for a “nice, vegan chick” instead of a “punk rock girl”, and Bob voices his displeasure with Bobby’s constant weekly updates about Blink 182.

Regarding the Bobs’ interview with Justin Thirsk, Bob begins with an apology for giving bad information the week prior about Justin’s brother, Jason, who was the original bass player of Pennywise and the author of their iconic anthem, Bro Hymn. Justin takes the Bobs on a trip down memory lane about his former band 98 Mute and explains the origins of his new recording project, Chaos Delivery Machine.

Bob compares Korean food to a Japanese band celebrating 20 years together, then mentions Burger King when another veteran punk rock band becomes the topic of conversation (Bob obviously needs to eat better before the show). Bob goes on to explain “Crossover” to Bobby, then finishes his thought by comparing punk and metal music to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Bob invites Bobby to visit Florida for his birthday, then tries to convince him to move back to the Sunshine State, insisting that all New Yorkers are “mean and nasty” – recalling his time frequenting the state as a youth and being punched in the face for an off-color remark. Bobby refuses to give up the other reasons why his girlfriend dumped him.

The Bobs both agree that they have “Type A” personalities, then the two “A-holes” connect with Green Jellÿ founder and frontman, Bill Manspeaker, in an online video chat. In true form, Bill shares the link with his fans who proceed to flood the chat room like circus freaks aiming to impress their ringleader – the almighty Cowgod himself. The Bobs attempt to reign in some of Bill’s adoring fans but bedlam ensues (the FULL INTERVIEW can be found HERE on the DSR YouTube page).

006 – JIM LINDBERG, FOLD THE NUTS | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bob speaks solo with WRATHS/Pennywise/The Black Pacific frontman Jim Lindberg; and Bob and Bobby make an international call to Athens, Greece to speak with BAND SPOTLIGHT: Fold The Nuts.

Bob reveals his narcissistic nature by humbly letting everybody know his day of birth, the two Bobs notice striking similarities amongst long tenured bands performing classic albums in their entirety (i.e. Face To Face’s “Triple Crown” series and Bad Religion’s “Battle of the Centuries”) and Bob invites all of the listeners to make a Wikipedia page for DyingScene.com and the DS radio show, respectively.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: FOLD THE NUTS
Bob manages to offend Greek punk rockers – Fold The Nuts – not once, but twice during their brief conversation, then he attempts to win back their favor by revealing that he sometimes gasses up his car in Tarpon Springs, FL – which has the highest percentage of Greek Americans of any city in the US. The two Bobs use their sleuthy nature to figure out the true meaning behind the band’s name, then Bobby requests that Bob be more zany.

Bob makes an ill attempt to correct Bobby on his pronunciation of Bayside frontman Anthony Raneri’s last name, while the guys use character voices to describe Raneri’s statement regarding Bayside’s recently released lyric video for their new single, “Dancing Like An Idiot”.

Bob speaks with Jim Lindberg and then debuts a new track from WRATHS. After admitting that he didn’t actually read Jim’s best-selling book, “Punk Rock Dad“, Bob practices “radical honesty” to clear his name and throws out a quick disclaimer that he has actually purchased the book online after reading the 30 page teaser on his Kindle. Noxious and Lindberg discover that they are “kindred spirits” when they compare their long list of obvious parallels – specifically, their knack for keeping a healthy band-life balance while each having three daughters.

005 – OUT OF ORDER | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week (as like most) on Dying Scene RadioBob and Bobby jabber about NY vs. Florida weather and bums before settling in to discuss the week in punk rock.

Bobby shares a classic video game cheat code as the conversation turns to the Canadian music scene, as Bob admits to learning his Canadian geography from talking to all of the different bands and Bobby explains the “beer store” as he remembers it from his travels in Ontario.

The conversation quickly devolves into “the things people do in Florida” when The All Knowledgable Bob mentions that he had recently visited an establishment in Florida where there were football goalposts inside of the urinal and the objective of this water sport was to pee onto the attached football in order to Rube Goldberg it through the uprights. Bobby recalls the “Cornhole” game as talk turns to sports, not that either of them know anything about the subject. Their only pastime, punk rock.

Bobby acknowledges his fondness of Screeching Weasel and makes an appeal to the band; Bob chuckles in amusement. Things get serious as talk turns to the latest news that Afroman was recently arrested for slugging a woman onstage. Bobby has no second thoughts about his offer to Screeching Weasel, even after Bob informs him that the same thing happened to Ben Weasel.

A St. Louis-area band has started a crowd-funded website to help raise money to have their drummer killed. The bum finds this newsworthy and so do “the Bobs”. The band is only asking $100 to reach their goal and Bob promptly reaches for his credit card.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: Out Of Order
The two Bobs have a discsussion with Scott and Joel from the Montreal-based Oi band, Out Of Order. It was such a great talk that the interview had to be extended into two parts.

Since so much music was released this week on Valentine’s Day, Bob remenisces on his date, while Bobby relates by bringing up references from popular TV shows. Bob and Bobby bond over shared memories of playing with army men. And when Bob asks Bobby if he ever burned his army men, Bob reveals that he has a current collection of Barbie dolls that he keeps on display.

After noting that there has been an influx of recently released music from such 90’s punk icons as Good Riddance and Millencolin, Bob asks the question, “Is it time for 90’s punk rock to make a comeback?” Genre labeling becomes the topic of blathering when Bob plays a band that dubs themselves “college street punk”. Yeah, we’ve never heard of it either…

004 – RUSSIAN GIRLFRIENDS, ENTROPY NY | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio: Bob continues to gloat about the fantastic weather in Florida, while Bobby and his bum stay warm from the heater in Bobby’s mom’s car; Bob allows a glimpse into his “sick sociopath” soul as he reveals his fascination for the macabre; and Bobby gives the “all-knowledgable” Bob Noxious a mulligan after he opens his mouth without first checking his facts.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: Russian Girlfriends
The two Bobs speak with Ian, Adam and Colin of the Albequerque-based punk band, Russian Girlfriends, on this week’s DSR “Band Spotlight”. Bob jokes that while researching them on the internet, the first hit asked him for his credit card information. The bandmembers only fuel the jest by admitting that most of their Facebook likes come from middle-eastern men looking for brides. Also, it’s a DSR WORLD PREMIER – debuting an unreleased Russian Girlfriends’ track called “Tad Kuebler”.

Bobby discusses a news story, which inspires Bob to remember his Pirate Radio days. Bob coins the phrase “punk rock ‘Stairway To Heaven’” – alluding to the lengthy NOFX classic, “The Decline”.

Bob takes Bobby to the Punk Rock Academy and gives him an assignment: to find and interview a New York City “Crack Rock” band.

Bobby and the bum take a trip to Warwick, New York to visit the Orange County, NY-based hardcore punk band, Entropy. Bobby interviews bandmates Brian, Brian, Colin and Patrick on-location at Tuscan Cafe, the iconic “vegan-friendly” restaurant where these OCHC punkers once played their first show. They discuss the band’s hardcore roots while expressing disdain for the catchy ska song the group released as a “bonus track” on their latest record. WATCH THE FULL INTERVIEW!

003 – ANDREW WK, CRIME CITY, BOB SUREN | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bob Noxious and Bobby Pickles settle into their roles while passively aggressively trying to one-up each other. No one’s eating hot dogs at Coney Island on this episode of the podcast, but there’s plenty of hamburgers and snow in New York City. Bobby takes in a “bum” from off of the streets and mentions that, “they can be quite helpful for the budding entrepreneur.” If only they could edit audio clips…

Bob recalls watching the World Series with Bad Religion’s Brett Guerewitz while challenging the podcast listeners to send Bobby their Top 10 Most Important Punk Bands for him to study up on.

Bob then sits down and chats with the infamous Andrew WK before his performance in St. Petersburg, FL. They discuss recording with LMFAO, self-motivation, how the legendary death metal band Obituary helped form Andrew’s band…and what else? Partying!

Bobby reports on the week’s punk rock news then professes his love for 80′s music icons, Hall & Oates. Much debate ensues on whether Green Day has, or has not, been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Bobby turns to his bum, Tony, who is quickly proving his worth as a bona-fide fact checker.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: Crime City
This week’s BAND SPOTLIGHT artist is Vancouver-based side project punkers, Crime City, who recently released their self-titled debut EP. Three out of the four capable canucks have a “meeting with the Bobs” to discuss the band’s origins, their obvious comparisons to Propagandhi and the problems faced by Canadian musicians wanting to tour throughout the United States.

Bob also speaks with punk-author, Bob Suren, who will be releasing his first book entitled “Crate Digger: An Obsession with Punk Records” in June 2015 through Microcosm Publishing. The music inspires the memories in this memoir about growing up as a punk rocker, as told through the author’s record collection.

“There’s nothing more punk than podcasting!” – Bobby Pickles

002 – THINGS CHANGE, DAMN BROADS | DYING SCENE RADIO

This week on Dying Scene Radio, Bobby prepares for a “blizzard of epic proportions” in Connecticut, while Bob sits at home in Florida wearing shorts and a T-Shirt. Together, they plow through another week’s worth of new music and highlights, as reported by dyingscene.com.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: Things Change
This week’s BAND SPOTLIGHT is on the Canadian punk rock trio, Things Change. Often compared to Small Brown Bike, Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker, Jason Kindrachuk, the band’s guitarist/singer, talks to Bob and Bobby about the band’s origins in the prairies of Regina, Saskatchewan and how each band member migrated individually over 1700 kilometers to reform in Vancouver. The conversation turns to breaking into the Vancouver music scene and how Things Change gained their Facebook following of teenage girls who have recently broken up with their boyfriends.

Bobby gets up close and personal with Damn Broads, an all-female punk band out of Torrington, Connecticut. The interview is conducted on-location at Snapper Magee’s from the stage where the ladies recently shot a new music video for their song, “I’m A Fake”, which can be heard here. While drinking shots of Jameson, these hardcore hunnies talk about playing nazi-bars and writing songs about the Westborough Baptist Church, while Bobby reveals his love and admiration for Mariah Carey…and that was only after the first round! You can watch the interview in its entirety HERE.

…Never forget the BliZZard of 2015.
